Shakespeare's Coat of Arms

On October 20, 1596 the Shakespeares were granted this coat of arms and from that point on were recognized as members of the English gentry. Henceforth, Shakespeare signed his name 'William Shakespeare, gentleman.' Sadly, only two months prior, Shakespeare had burried his only son, eleven year old Hamnet. This was his last hope that his lineage would survive.
