THE MIGRANT PROJECT

"The Migrant Project" is an in-depth photojournalistic portrait and recently published book detailing the lives and struggles of today's California migrant farm workers. This mosaic of images and text, shot across the state, aims to capture the rarely seen contemporary faces of this mostly cast-off population, as well as speak about the more general issues surrounding the cost of feeding America.

Upwards of a million farm workers pick California's fruits and vegetables – produce which accounts for more than half of our nation’s daily consumption.  Still, they rank among the state's poorest and most feebly housed, with the highest percentages of uninsureds and the lowest literacy rates. They are California's invisible population, traveling in darkness and working in blinding sun.

An official affiliate exhibit to the California Council for the Humanities Reading “The Grapes of Wrath” Program, “The Migrant Project” will be open to the public October 1st through November 30th.  An Opening Gala and Viewing will be held the night of Friday, October 2nd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm to honor the efforts of Talley Vineyards and to welcome photographer Rick Nahmias.  Talley will be pouring their charity wine, the Mano Tinta.  Details of the artist’s work and information about Mano Tinta and The Fund for Vineyard and Farm Workers can be viewed at the websites below.
