Assignments go back in time as you scan down the table.
This page will be updated on a continuous basis. Always do assignments in the order listed. For the procedure of doing and self-correcting homework exercises, click here.

Late  homework policy: Written homework will be accepted up to one week from its due date (except the last week of classes). If you hand in homework late, please mark it "Late" and write on it its original due date. If you are asked to re-do an assignment, do the work, mark the paper "Resubmit" and the date on which  you hand the assignment in. This policy does not apply to term papers. The last day to hand in homework is the last class meeting of the quarter.

Week 1
Thurs., 3/30/06
Week 2
Tues. 4/4 & Thurs., 4/6

For Tuesday:

  • Read True Grammar (TG from now on) "The Phonetics and Phonology of English"** from 1.1.0 through 1.2.5.
  • Complete the grammar "tests" you worked on in class 3/30. Remember not to ask for help or look up answers in a grammar book. This is a sort of "pre-test", and we'll repeat them as a "post-test" at the end of the quarter. If you don't know an answer, leave that item blank. Don't worry about how many mistakes you make or answers you don't know. My expectations in this area are zero, and it's not your fault if you don't know these things. I'll distribute and answer key on Tues., so there is no self-correct requirement for this exercise.

For Thursday:

  • Exercises 3 & 4, on p. 39 of the Phonetics/Phonology chapter. Self-correct.

**This chapter has been inserted between chapters 1 & 2 of the book manuscript. It has its own page numbering and its own table of contents. It begins after p. 8 (Ch. 1) of the text.

Note: I will probably assign some more written homework on Tuesday 4/4. Keep this in mind in managing your time.

Week 1 Tues., 3/28/06

Thurs., 3/30/06
  • Buy True Grammar at Aida's. Price is $20-$25.
  • Read Preface and Chapter 1.
